ASSISTANT TERMINAL MANAGER | SACRAMENTO, CA

Sentinel Transportation is seeking an Assistant Terminal Manager to join our team. As a valued member of Sentinel Transportation, you will assist in coordinating, directing and supervising daily operations in a 24/7 Crude Oil transport terminal in a safe, effective and efficient manner. primary responsibilities

 

  • Supervises, directs and trains transport operators with guidance from the Terminal Manager. Develops schedules, monitors work, implements productivity standards, implements and enforces new procedures. Coaches and trains, as required.
  • Supports Terminal Manager in recruiting, selecting, onboarding and training new drivers, and mechanics, where applicable.  
  • Assists in handling all terminal administration including, but not limited to, paying invoices, payroll, driver logs, reporting revenue and appropriate filing of all.
  • Along with Terminal Manager and Equipment Team, coordinates all maintenance of equipment, scheduled and unscheduled, with mechanics and/or outside shops.  Determines path forward when breakdown occurs, on or off the road.  Oversees repair shop to assure proper work is being done, charges are appropriate, and shop is meeting all Company and/or DOT guidelines and policies.  Communicates with equipment vendors, as needed.
  • Ensures compliance with all Federal, State and Local regulations as well as Company standards.
  • Reviews terminal costs and equipment utilization with Terminal Manager and makes recommendations.
  • Administers safety programs. Performs random audits to evaluate safety. Makes operational safety recommendations. Assists in planning and conducting of safety meetings. Responds to and handles accident/injury/spill incidents per Terminal Manager.
  • Ensures all customers site hazards are corrected and communication is made with drivers.
  • Orders and maintains all terminal supplies. Communicates with vendors for terminal and equipment repairs.
  • Understands and proactively responds to customer needs. Addresses customer issues and complaints using internal process.

 

 

requirments  |  Skills and/or Experience

 

  • Three or more years working experience in the transportation industry, with one year as a supervisor preferred
  • Previous experience in a hazardous materials environment preferred
  • Experience in managing costs against budget, including the allocation of physical and human resources within a transportation environment preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of FMCSA, DOT and other regulations related to the transportation of chemicals and petroleum products
  • Demonstrated knowledge of FHWA/HM regulations and Sentinel policies and procedures
  • Experience in using new and emerging technologies, such as Elogs, CBT, and Electronic on-board recorders
  • Ability to communicate in English with individuals and groups in a range of settings using a mix of verbal and written communication styles
  • Proficiency in data management, such as People Net,  and all Microsoft Office applications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree in a related field, preferred 
  • Commercial Driver's License with proper endorsements, a plus
